It was socrates who first coined the phrase “membership has its privileges”. Maybe.

Members enjoy a plethora of perks at the grad house. Fairly-traded coffee and a variety of tea are only $1.00. There is a great selection of games, magazines and newspapers to distract yourself with while having a quick lunch or an afternoon drink.  For sports fans there are TVs in both rooms on the main floor.

Graduate students have their membership fees added to their semesterly fee statements. Every grad student can bring up to 5 guests when they come to the grad house via the sign-up book at the bar. Members of the UW community can acquire a membership card for the very low price of $30 a semester, $10 for a 30-day pass and $5 for 1-time admission. Alumni of grad programs have free lifetime membership and can also sign in guests.

The grad house operates as a members-only club for graduate students who are charged a membership fee per term. By obtaining a refund of the grad house fee, grad students surrender their membership to and forfeit privileges/use of the clubhouse.
Note: even if you get a refund, you are still entitled to attend Council meetings, Legal Aid and Tax Aid clinics held at the Grad House.

New for Spring 2012

After years of planning, months of discussions and weeks of waiting we have finally received confirmation that major renovations of the Graduate House will begin in May 2012.  Our challenge is to ensure that all the major projects are completed by the end of August 2012.  Major repairs/renovations include external and internal projects that will require a complete suspension of operations in the Graduate House.

We plan to resume full operations in September 2012

The Graduate House Fee will be needed to help fund part of the renovation project and I encourage you to consider supporting this project.  We truly appreciate your support!

If you prefer to obtain a refund of the Graduate House Fee ($15.00) please send an email with an attachment of your Spring 2012 itemized fee statement and your on-campus address (or off campus address if you are enrolled in distance programs) to Rose Vogt  rvogt@uwaterloo.ca .  Requests for Graduate House Fee refunds must be received between May 1, 2012 – May 18, 2012.  Cheques will be sent to you because there will be no access to the Graduate House during construction.  Refunds will not be available after the first 3 weeks of the start of class.

Students at the School of Architecture and the School of Pharmacy have prearranged procedures regarding the Graduate House Fee.
